About Ryan
Ryan Carter is my name, but most people just call me Carter. I’m known as RCMastermind in the poker world, but play under many different names. I play poker for a living and before that I participated in all sorts of little schemes to avoid having a real job. I also run the poker training school Poker Dynasty. I’m mostly a cash game player, but do very well in tournaments when I dabble in them. I won an FTOPS event earlier this year (here’s the video) and have a few other $10K+ scores under my belt. The thought of working a 9-5 job and making someone else rich sickens me. Luckily I found poker and have been successful enough at that so I won’t have to worry about finding a job for a very long time.
The amount of free time this lifestyle provides is amazing, and I would be very foolish not to take full advantage of it. The world is a very big place and I plan to see every inch of it. I travel whenever possible. Something about drinking a fine wine in Paris, smoking a fat cigar on a beach in Costa Rica, and snowboarding some fresh powder in BC motivates me more than anything else. This blog will be part poker discussion, part travel guide, part comedy show, and a whole lot of my personal opinion of the world (you’re reading my blog so you must be at least some what interested in what I think…. right?) .
I won’t lie, I live a very good life. It’s not because I have any special talents, anybody can break free if they try, I just had the guts to take a chance and go against what everyone told me was the “right way” to live. The decision to shrug off the conventional path to success was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I wake up every morning thankful I did. If this site can convince one person to do the same I will consider it a success. You don’t have to go out and become a pro poker player (but if that’s something you are interested in make sure you check out Poker Dynasty), that life isn’t for everybody, you just have to find something you love that also gives you freedom. There are a million ways to do it, you just have to find one.
